🎬 There’s a jazzy version of ‘Here Comes The Rain’ by Ida Sand that deviates from the original by Eurythmics. It’s beautiful and haunting and we love it. What you’re hearing is the bare bones foundation of this song while we explore its potential for reproducing with our earthy sound. Lots of room to manoeuvre.

🎬 Steve is moving in! Well… the drums are. Just a few cymbals today while we ponder the next move. Putting in a kick and a snare will drive the volume levels up, plus we love the sound of the snares in the cajon. Tough decisions. We play ‘No Man is an Island’ and kinda’ re-learn ‘The One Behind’ as it’s been a minute. Enjoy the video below.

🎬 This week we rehearsed some originals: ‘Heavy Rotation’, ‘More’ and ‘No Tattoos’. Finally got Tyler’s lead guitar and Danielle’s ukulele through the main board so we can isolate them from the room mic and bring the levels up. Same for the vocals.

🎬 We are working on the nuances of our current favorite originals: ‘Gravity’, ‘Heavy Rotation’, ‘Don’t Fight With Me’ and ‘Give You Mine’. We’re also working on ‘The Eye’ (Toad The Wet Sprocket), ‘No Man Is An Island’ (The Script), and Lost (Maroon 5).

🎬 The way we write songs isn’t always very straight forward. ‘Give You Mine’ started with a story, recounted by Cleve DeVerteuil about a boat that didn’t return from fishing one morning. Determined to show people what that looks like, James set out to reconstruct a ‘search and rescue’ operation from the slipway in Blanchisseuse.

🎬 Other than Ed Sheeran’s ‘Tides’ which we might drop altogether, We are making progress with: ‘Gravity’, ‘Heavy Rotation’, ‘Don’t Fight With Me’ and ‘Give You Mine’. We’re also working on ‘The Eye’ (Toad The Wet Sprocket).

🎬 “So I’m perched on this rock, cramping everywhere from the waist down. Half of me is trying to figure out how to get out of here without shattering the camera housing.

🎬 Our cameras cut out a couple of times in this session but you can still listen while you clean the kitchen… or prep the boat. Our chill version of ‘Message in a Bottle’ is coming along nicely. It’s an important part of a ‘Castaway’ set we like to do – songs about getting shipwrecked on a deserted island.

🎬 Songwriting and arranging is a lot of fun. We have very different musical influences ranging from Flamenco to Blues so we are learning from each other all the time. And while we are pushing the limits of what we’re capable of we make a few mistakes! Embracing them and knowing that we are pushing past our comfort zone is what makes music so therapeutic.
